Create Peace at Home: 8 Simple Decluttering Methods That Actually Work

Is your home feeling more chaotic than calm?

You’re not alone. Life gets busy, and before we know it, clutter creeps into every corner. But a peaceful, organized space isn’t just nice to look at—it helps you think more clearly, sleep better, and breathe easier. The good news? Decluttering doesn’t have to mean a weekend-long purge or renting a dumpster. Start small and steady with these eight simple methods:

1. The 15-Minute Rule

Set a timer for just 15 minutes and focus on one small area—a drawer, a corner, or your purse. It’s amazing what you can accomplish in a short burst.

2. One-In, One-Out

This rule is a game-changer. Bring in something new? Something else has to go. It keeps your home from overflowing again.

3. The Four-Box Method

Grab four boxes or bags and label them: Keep, Donate, Trash, and Relocate. Go through one room or area at a time. Every item must go into one of the four.

4. Just One Thing

Overwhelmed? Just get rid of one item a day. It may not sound like much, but in a year, that’s 365 things you no longer have to manage.

5. The “Does It Spark Joy?” Test

Marie Kondo made this one famous. Hold an item and ask, “Does this spark joy?” If not, thank it for its service and let it go.

6. Declutter by Category

Instead of tackling by room, sort by category—clothes, books, papers, kitchen gadgets. This reveals how much you really have.

7. Drop Zones

Create a home for keys, mail, bags, and shoes. When everything has a place, clutter doesn’t pile up.

8. Clear the Surfaces

Keep counters, dressers, and tables as clear as possible. Less visual clutter brings more mental calm.

Decluttering isn’t about having a perfect house—it’s about making space for peace. Start with one method that feels doable. You’ll be surprised how quickly things start to shift. And by all means, if you have another tried and true method of decluttering, please share it!

From Entrepreneur to Empowerment: My Journey to Health and Purpose”

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I sold my first painting while still in high school, and as a young mom married to a coal miner, I was determined to find creative ways to earn extra income from home. Whether it was sewing, crafting, quilting, or painting, I traded my time for money with one-on-one services to support my family.

In my mid-30s, a health crisis led me to explore natural holistic remedies and lifestyle changes, transforming my life in ways I never imagined.

As my children grew and left home, I transitioned to teaching high school, still trading time for money, but I knew there had to be more to life. With broadband internet replacing slow dial-up, I eagerly dove into health and wellness topics, and spent countless hours researching ways to earn extra income. Along the way, I tried a few strategies that didn’t work, but every failure taught me something important.

Now, in my 70’s, my mission is clear: to share everything I’ve learned to help other Christian women reclaim their health and discover new ways to serve God. I’m passionate about guiding them away from the overwhelm of endless research and analysis paralysis and showing them how to take action and uncover their true purpose.

Whether you’re seeking stability, taking bold action, building meaningful relationships, or looking for knowledge, this community is for you. We’re here to support you in discovering your purpose and transforming your health, no matter where you’re starting from.

Welcome to a journey of empowerment, growth, and faith.
